Tastings

A great way to enjoy wine and learn what you like and don’t like is to sample a number of different wines side by side, especially if there is a common link such as country or grape variety to compare and contrast.

Tutored Tastings

Even better is to come to a tutored tasting where we talk through each wine as we taste it and you can ask questions as we go along. We usually hold these tastings for small groups of 12-15 people once a month in the shop on a Monday evening. The cost is £20 a ticket or £35 for 2. The cost covers tasting 7 or 8 wines and a selection of bread and cheese from Norbiton Cheese. An informal, enjoyable and informative evening from 7pm- 9pm. Details of the next tasting can be found on our newsletter. Please send in your email address if you wish to be kept informed.

Portfolio Tasting

Once a year we have a larger tasting for 80 people of 40 wines at Warren House, Kingston upon Thames, which gives you an opportunity to taste a wider range of wine with wine trade professionals behind each table to answer your questions. Timed to be in the run up to Christmas, this is an excellent opportunity to try before you buy! Ticket prices as before, £20 a ticket or £35 for 2. The cost covers tasting all the wines and a selection of bread and cheese. 2010 date is still to be confirmed, watch this space for more details.

Private Tastings

If you would prefer to have a tasting in your own home, we can arrange this for you. A tasting usually takes 2 hours and a bottle of wine ideally serves 12 samples. 6 or 8 wines is sufficient to give a good selection of styles within your chosen theme. A tasting fee of £50 is charged as well as the price of the wine. Please contact Charlotte to discuss your requirements.

Host your own Blind Tasting!

If you want to try tasting wines without knowing what they are or where they come from and therefore judge them on their own merits, we can select 6 or 8 wines and wrap them in foil and number them so you taste them in the right order. Try them with your friends (a bottle serves up to 12 samples) and complete the multiple choice question sheet for each wine. At the end you can uncover the wines and read all about the wines you have just tasted and the answers are provided in a sealed envelope.

A bespoke tasting is easily arranged but the following themes have already been tried and tested and enjoyed.

Old World v. New World

4 classic grape varieties; Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. An example of each from North and South hemispheres, served in pairs to taste together. Can you identify them correctly? Do the warmer climate wines taste richer and riper? Are the cooler climate wines more complex?
8 wines and tasting notes £95

Italy from Top to Toe?

Journey through 8 wines, red and white, each from a different area in Italy. Can you plot them on the map? Can you guess the grape variety, taste lemons or cherries, or tell whether the wine had been aged in oak or not? Which wine is the Amarone?
8 wines and tasting notes £150

Can Burgundy Be Bettered?

A benchmark Pinot Noir and Chardonnay versus 6 of the best the rest of the world can muster in the buttery oaky Chardonnay department and light, cherry fruited Pinot stakes. Which do you prefer? Can you guess which country these wines are from?
8 wines and tasting notes £200
